Also called “The Fisherman’s Beach”, Las Galeras Beach is the main beach of Las Galeras, a fishing community sprawled around it and along the main road that leads to the peninsula’s capital, Samana. Apart from its local residents, mainly fishermen, farmers, tourism workers and small business owners, the Las Galeras community has grown into an international expat enclave where Europeans, Americans and Canadians manage small hotels, restaurants and shops.
A laid back, dreamy atmosphere of a small Caribbean hamlet mingles with a buzz of a global village where multiple languages are spoken and diverse cuisines enjoyed, while merengue and the most contemporary international hits resound in the streets.
Las Galeras Beach is just one of a dozen spectacular beaches spread around the Bay of Rincon, easily accessible on foot, by bike, by boat or by car. Many of them stand deserted, waiting to offer their clear waters, coconut forests and warm sands to enthusiastic adventurers.
Rincon and Samana Bay are one of only 25 bays designated as the most beautiful in the world. (see: http://www.world-bays.com/)
Samana is the provincial capital about a 30-minute drive away. It shares the name with the whole Samana peninsula renowned for its tropical forests, coconut groves, hundreds of hidden beaches ranging from deep red to crystal white sands, turquoise clear waters, waterfalls, nationals parks, delicious cuisine and warmly welcoming people.
The city of Samana bustles with life as sailboats arrive into the marina, vendors announce their foods and crafts, street corner bars reverberate with bachata and merengue, and local people play domino on front porches.
A place away from it all and in the very center of life!
